How to use the Checklist

A short guide for everyone on the team. Works the same on your phone and on a laptop.

  1. Go to checklist.chamanknit.in
  2. Enter your Username and Password
  3. Your first password is your username followed by 123 (for example, username rahul → password rahul123)
  4. Tap Sign in
You normally stay signed in on that phone or computer. If the app ever asks you to sign in again, just enter your username and password once more.
  1. Open the menu — on a phone tap the ☰ menu button at the top-left; on a laptop the menu is always visible on the left
  2. At the bottom of the menu tap Change password
  3. Type your current password (for example rahul123), then your new password twice
  4. Tap Save — your new password is stored securely
Please change your first password straight away to keep your account safe. New passwords need at least 4 characters.

Easiest way

  • Sign in, open the menu and tap Install app (it appears when your browser supports it). Confirm, and the Checklist icon is added to your home screen.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Open checklist.chamanknit.in in Chrome
  2. Tap the 3-dot menu (⋮) at the top-right
  3. Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app)
  4. Keep the name Checklist and tap Add

iPhone / iPad (Safari)

  1. Open the link in Safari
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add

Laptop (Chrome / Edge)

  • Click the star ☆ in the address bar or press Ctrl+D to bookmark the page
  • Or use the browser menu → Install app to get a desktop shortcut

After you sign in, the Tasks page shows a row of buttons with a count on each. Tap one to switch the list:

To doEvery task that is not finished yet, most urgent first. This is what you see when you open the app.
OverduePast the due date — do these first! Shown with a red edge and "3 days overdue".
Due todayDue today — amber edge.
UpcomingDue later — "Tomorrow", "In 5 days".
DoneFinished tasks, with the date and time you completed them.
AllEverything together, newest first, with the created date and sortable columns.

Each task shows what to do, any remarks from your manager, the due date, and a weekly tag if it repeats.

  1. Find the task in To do (or Overdue / Today)
  2. Tap the green Done button
  3. The task fades out and moves to Done with today's date and time
  4. Your manager gets a notification straight away

Tapped Done by mistake? Open Done and tap Reopen — the task goes back to your list.

Not finished yet, but want to say how it is going? Use Update status instead — see section 7.

Repeating tasks (daily, weekly, monthly or yearly) come back automatically with the next date after you mark them done.

Giving a task to someone without a login

  1. Tap + Add task
  2. In Who will do it? pick the person, or choose + Add a new person at the bottom of the list
  3. Type their name and mobile number (10 digits — 91 is added for you)
  4. Write the task, pick the due date, tap Add task

The number is saved once, so next time that person is already in the list. They never need a password or an app.

Your name goes on the WhatsApp message: “Vikas has assigned you a new task”. You can also delete a task you gave to somebody — the bin icon appears only on tasks you assigned.

The private link in the WhatsApp message

Every message carries one private link for that one task. Tapping it opens a small page showing just that task, where the person can write a note and tap a button. No login, no password. The link works only for that task, so it is safe to forward the message to the person — but do not post it in a group.

You are told on WhatsApp every time they report something.

What each status means

  • Started — they are working on it. The daily reminder keeps coming.
  • Problem — something is blocking them; the note says what. The daily reminder keeps coming.
  • Not done — it cannot be done. The daily reminder stops, and the task stays on the record.
  • Closed — it is no longer needed. The daily reminder stops.
  • Completed — the work is finished. That is the green Done button, in the app or on the link.
“Not done” and “Closed” only stop the reminders. They do not mark the task as finished — use Done for that.

Reporting a status from inside the app

  1. Tap Update status on the task
  2. Choose Started, Problem, Not done or Closed
  3. Add a note if it helps (optional), then tap Save status

The status and the note then show on the task for everyone who can see it, with your name and the time.

  1. Tap Need more time? on the task
  2. The Pick a new date window opens — choose the day you can finish it
  3. Tap Save new date

This is for your own tasks — you do not need to ask anyone first, and nobody is marked down for using it. Pick a day you are sure about: a date you can keep is better than a date you cannot. 😊

Every date change is recorded in the activity log, so your manager can see the new date. Managers can also change how often a task repeats from the same window.

On a phone

  • Each task is a card with the Done and Need more time? buttons right underneath it — nothing is hidden off the side of the screen
  • The menu is behind the ☰ button; managers get the round + Add task button at the bottom-right
  • Pop-ups (Add task, Pick a new date) slide up from the bottom; tap outside them or the × to close

On a tablet or laptop

  • Tasks are shown as a table with one row per task and the menu stays open on the left
  • Any browser works — Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox
Everything you do is saved on the server instantly, so you can start on your phone and continue on a laptop.

Admin View and User View

  • Managers start in User View (only tasks assigned to you). In the menu, under View, tap Switch to Admin View to see everyone's tasks — an ADMIN tag appears while it is on.
  • Admin View adds the Person column and filter, the WhatsApp reminder button and the Delete button on each task.

Adding a task

  1. Tap + Add task
  2. Choose the person — or + Add a new person for somebody who has no login (see section 7)
  3. Write the task, set the due date, optionally make it repeat (daily, weekly, monthly or yearly) and add remarks
  4. Tap Add task — the person gets a WhatsApp message with the task, the due date and their private update link, and the text is copied to your clipboard too

If the same task was already given to that person today, the app warns you and asks before adding it again.

Everyone with a login can give out a task, not only managers. Whoever gave it is told on WhatsApp when the other person reports Started, Problem, Not done or Closed, and can delete that task.

Reminders on WhatsApp

  • Send today's reminders (top of the Tasks page) messages everyone who has a task due today
  • Send overdue opens the Reminders page for overdue tasks
  • A daily message with each person's pending tasks goes out automatically every morning

Other pages in the menu

Reminders — send overdue reminders to one person or everyone.
Daily Messages — preview and send the daily pending-task messages, or copy them to a Google Sheet.

Good habits

  • Check your tasks every day — the morning WhatsApp message is a reminder, the app is the full list.
  • Do Overdue tasks first.
  • Tap Done as soon as you finish — do not wait until evening.
  • Cannot finish something on time? Tap Need more time? and pick a new date — that is much better than letting it sit. 😊
  • Install the app on your phone (section 3) so it is one tap away.
  • Change your first password (section 2).
  • Open the Checklist — sign in and start.
